# Understanding Yield

Yields are offered in Stackup using vaults. Each vault is a smart contract that deposits your funds into a DeFi protocol that generates the yield.

The Annual Percentage Yield (APY) is a variable rate that can change based on market conditions and protocol performance. This rate shown in Stackup’s platform is not guaranteed and may fluctuate over time.
